Blues Competition - 5 p.m.
The Big Bend Blues Competition will take place Friday, July 29, during "The Big Bend Weekend" of events. Blues bands and solo/duo blues acts will compete for cash, prizes and the PB&J’s sponsorship to The Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge (IBC) held yearly in Memphis, Tennessee.
The IBC represents an international search by The Blues Foundation, and its affiliated organizations, for the Blues band and Blues solo/duo most deserving of taking their act to the International stage. In 2011, over 150 bands and 70 solo/duo artists from 36 states and 9 countries competed, making the IBC the largest gathering of Blues acts in the world.
The first-place winner of the Big Bend Blues Competition will receive $500 dollars in cash and sponsorship to the 2012 International Blues Challenge. At the IBC, the winner can gain valuable exposure to record label A&R representatives, Blues industry professionals, and festival promoters capable of providing real career advancement for a serious blues musician. The second place winner will receive $200 in cash and third-place winner will receive $100 in cash.
Patrick Sweany Band - 10 p.m.
A rip-roaring juke joint trio if there ever was one! And the one thing most people will notice about Patrick isn't his ability to copy, it's his authenticity. Like his heroes, folks like Bobby "Blue" Bland, Eddie Hinton, Doug Sahm, Ray Charles, Patrick somehow manages to blend all of these influences into something uniquely his own.
