2010 Big Bend Blues Bash

Now featuring three days of Music at the Riverside Amphitheatre in downtown Pomeroy, Ohio (See map). This year's festival will be held Thursday, July 29; Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31.

Similar to Horseshoes, Cornhole has been said to have originated in Germany in the 14th century and then rediscovered in the hills of Kentucky over 100 years ago. The truth is, who really knows? What we do know is the game is great fun for all ages, can be played anywhere, and is highly addictive!

Thursday, July 29 Roots Fest Lineup

The PB&J's are happy to present a FREE night of Roots Blues music to the Blues Bash weekend of events! The Ohio River Valley will echo with the traditional sounds of Roots, Rags, and Country Blues.

Josh Buskirk
Josh Buskirk
An up and coming Guitar Virtuoso from our own Mid-Ohio Valley, Buskirk plays in style known as "American Primitive." This rare art form, made popular in '70's by Leo Kottke, has it's background in the Delta Blues of the ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s as well as Bluegrass, Jazz and Classical.

Micah Kesselring
Micah Kesselring
Don't let his young age fool you, Kesselring was the winner of the 2009 International Blues Challenge Youth Showcase and has been featured in Guitar Player Magazine, The Columbus Dispatch, on Wag's and Elliot's Q-FM-96 Radio show, and was the winner of The Arizona Jeans Music Contest. His music is a combination of Delta, Appalachian, Piedmont, and Country Blues.

Woody Pines
Woody Pines
Playing a National guitar, harmonica, cord organ, banjo and kazoo, Woody Pines belts out the Roots, Rags, Romps and Stomps with an Old Time, Vaudeville feel. Listeners will transported to the Delta, hearing music that should be coming from a worn out and busted AM radio.

Marshall Ruffin
Marshall Ruffin
This 25 year old Roots Rock and Blues Singer, Songwriter and Guitarist is a Jazz educated Berklee graduate. A combination that makes Curtis Lynch of Playgrounds Magazine quip "Marshall Ruffin is evidently some genetic experiment gone right, an amalgam of David Bromberg, Tom Waits and Leon Redbone."

Victor Wainwright and the Wild Roots
Contemporary power-house Blues, funky Memphis Soul and Roots Rock 'n roll. Featuring the high-octane boogie piano and big Soul sounds of Blues man and vocalist Victor Wainwright, and backed by one of thee tightest smokin' jam bands on the scene, the Wild Roots.

Blues Competition

Blues bands and solo/duo blues acts from the Tri-State region will compete for cash, prizes and the PB&J's sponsorship to The Blues Foundation's "International Blues Challenge" held yearly in Memphis, Tennessee. Acts TBA. $5 admission, kids 12 and under free.

Eric Jerardi Band
A Fender sponsored guitar tour de force, Eric Jerardi is a Blues Rocker in every sense. Blazing licks and gruff vocals abound, but the man plays with touch too. Never afraid to back off and play the pauses, Eric Jerardi has Blues in his soul, and he delivers it with incredible tone, depth and texture.

Saturday, July 31 Lineup

Blues Bash runs from 1-11 p.m. $20 per person. Kids 12 and under free.

Blues School for Kids
Blues School for Kids
Celebrating it's third year, the Blues School for Kids promises to be a fun filled afternoon for children aged 4 and up. Two sessions of interactive musical workshops including Blues History and Song Writing with a free lunch included. The day culminates with the kids performing in the lime light of the Main Stage at the Blues Bash! Free harmonicas to the first 50 kids enrolled. Blue Z Band
Perennial favorites at the Blues Bash, the Blue Z Band are "a little Rock, a little Blues, and a whole lotta fun!" A rockin' power-trio fueled by local guitar legend, Sammy Doolittle and anchored by the father and son rhythm section of Milt and Anthony Call. Look for Blue Z to run wide open, pull out all the stops and start your day off right.

Magic Mama Latte
Magic Mama Latte
Hailing from nearby Gallipolis, Ohio, MML is a smokin' hot blues band with a strong presence on the Tri-State music scene. Consistent top finishes in regional Blues competitions has honed this band chops to a "T." Fronted by the dynamic and sizzling vocalist, Jenny Walker, look for this band to be a runner-up no more! They've paid their dues and are set to take their rightful place on the World's Blues stage.

Ian Ross Trio
Ian Ross Trio
A professional guitarist since age 13, Ian grew up jamming in the rock clubs of Cleveland, Ohio, sharing the stage with greats like Jeff Healey, Johnny Winter, Ted Nugent, Deep Purple, Earth Wind and Fire, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Later, taking a more serious approach to his instrument, Ian studied and graduated from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati where he excelled in jazz guitar performance. His current lineup is a jazz guitar and organ trio that has played such music festivals as the the Oxford Jazz Festival, Altoonia Jazz Festival, Taste of Cincinnati, Midpoint Music Festival, and our own Big Bend Blues Bash.

Powered by the showmanship and storytelling of front man Mark Richards, Mojo Theory have propelled themselves to the next level. After winning the 2009 Big Blend Blues Competition at our fest last year, Mojo went on to place a Top 10 finish at the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

Nick Curran and the Lowlifes
Touring in support of his new release, Reform School Girl, Nick Curran has been called a "sci-fi hybrid of T-Bone Walker, Little Richard, and Guitar Slim." Not sure what that means? Let's just say you're in for a dynamite performance of Blues and '50's Rock-a-billy, trust us.

Eddie Shaw and the Wolf Gang
Eddie Shaw and the Wolf Gang
Long time Chicago Blues man who's blown sax for the best in the biz, including Muddy Waters, Freddie King, and Ike Turner. As band leader for the great Howlin' Wolf, Shaw promised Wolf he'd carry on the Blues tradition, a promise he made to Wolf at his death-bed.

Hailing from Detroit, calling themselves a Blues band and sounding like a big 'ol slab of rock, the muggs are a 4-on-the-floor, full-tilt-boogie, power machine. This is no nonsense, bottom heavy, guitar oriented, original Blues Rock for fans who appreciate the likes of Paul Kossoff, Peter Green and Joe Walsh.
