*just received word from friends in the Beckley/Fayetteville area of an upcoming show on March 12th in Bluefield, WV. It’s near 3 hour drive from our area in the Mid-Ohio Valley to Bluefield, WV. So most likely we won’t be making the trip to see Lady D. But since we know we’ve got readers in...

Last week, a commendable competition lineup was presented by the Blues Jazz and Folk Music Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley to a full ballroom of blues lovers at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta, Ohio. it don’t seem to wanta end…

Only recently got the news of the passing of Mississippi bluesman L.C. Ulmer. It would be only fair to say that L.C. was not well known by many. Other then in certain circles. But in those certain circles he was known WELL and loved by all who knew him. (see so long L.C., we’re...

the unlikely story of Eugene ‘Sly’ Fox

SPOTLIGHT!

I think we probably first discovered Shaun Booker during the 2003 River City Blues Competition in Marietta? Amazingly she finished in only 2nd place! I can still remember how floored the crowd was, thinking she should have won. But since that night she’s had many, many successful gigs all over the world. Finishing in...

Sad as it is still thanks to North Carolina residents, Sue and Slack Action for sharing the news of the passing of blues legend L.C. Ulmer. Reports say he was found Sunday morning (Feb 14th) unresponsive at his home in Ellisville, MS. Although exact cause of death is still unknown, it appears to be of natural causes....

debunking a discovery?

Quote current issue Living Blues (Issue #241/Vol. 47, #1), “…if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!” This past December we published in part a report of a new photograph of Robert Johnson that had been “discovered” in Florida.  (see couple things… 12/23/2015).
